A visitor from Japan has died after he was found unresponsive in waters off of Waikiki.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Kiyokazu Kodama, 58, of Chiba-ken.

At about 3:15 p.m. Monday, Emergency Medical Services responded to a man described to be in his 50s who was found unresponsive and face down in the ocean fronting the Sheraton Waikiki located at 2255 Kalakaua Avenue.

Lifeguards brought the man to shore and performed CPR. Police and Emergency Medical Services reported paramedics arrived and conducted advanced life support before transporting him in critical condition to the hospital where he was pronounced dead Monday night.
