Big Isle police arrest fugitive in threat case
Big Island police arrested an 18-year-old man who was wanted in connection with auto thefts in East and West Hawaii.
Officers arrested Kahekili John Krause Thursday in Mountain View on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. He was charged a day earlier with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and reckless driving.
Prior to his arrest, police said Krause was last seen Wednesday in Puna in a stolen sedan that was involved in a single-car crash that afternoon in Ainahola. Krause fled the scene after the crash.
Police had issued a bulletin on Jan. 19 for a separate incident that involved a stolen Honda sedan. That afternoon, police said the driver of the stolen vehicle in the Hawaiian Beaches area allegedly drove toward a police officer who approached him in a patrol vehicle. The officer swerved off the roadway to avoide being struck and lost sight of the Honda.
No injuries were reported.
