No. 4 UH sweeps Pepperdine for 11th straight win

Hawaii opposite Stijn van Tilburg dug the ball during the first set of today’s match against the Pepperdine Waves.

Sophomore hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down 17 kills and No. 4 Hawaii won its 11th straight, sweeping No. 10 Pepperdine 25-22, 25-18, 28-26 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior hitter Kupono Fey added 15 kills and junior libero Tui Tuileta 12 digs for the Rainbow Warriors (16-2, 7-2 MPSF), who won their 11th consecutive at home this season, 15 dating back to last year. It also was Hawaii’s eighth consecutive sweep as well as the ninth straight over the Waves in Honolulu.

Sophomore hitter Michael Wexter had 10 kills, junior hitter Alex Harthaller eight and sophomore hitter David Wieczorek added seven kills for Pepperdine (6-7, 4-6). Junior libero Weston Barnes had 13 digs.

In the matchup of the top two blocking teams in the MPSF, Hawaii finished with an 11-4 edge, with Jennings Franciscovic in on five, and senior middle Hendrik Mol and freshman middle Patrick Gasman in on four.

The Warriors next host No. 14 USC (6-10, 5-8) in matches on Thursday and Friday.
