Local artist Chanel Tanaka, who started Art Bridge Events earlier this year, conducts terrarium workshops on Thursdays at Anuenue Exquisite Tea in Kailua. Upcoming themes include “Spring Butterfly” on June 1, “Little Quail” on June 8 and “Under the Sea” on June 15.

“I’ve been an artist my whole life, and while paint on canvas has been a common medium, I wanted to do something different,” she said. “The concept for Art Bridge Events is to allow art to serve as a bridge within the community, families and between friends.”

The pop-up-event company plans to expand to other locations, Tanaka said. The activities are ideal for bridal showers, birthday parties, a girls’ night out and other private parties (minimum 10 participants). Costs run $40 to $75 per person, depending on the venue.

Tanaka said she found a local farmer to grow the succulents for the terrariums, which are easy to make and maintain, and “most of all fun.”

“You can artistically create it to look how you want,” she said. “You get to pick your own succulents, ingredients and materials, and we just offer guidance.”
