    A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia. No tsunami threat was reported for Hawaii

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, but there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.

U.S. Geological Survey officials initially reported that the magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck at about 4:35 a.m. Hawaii time about 49 miles east-southeast of the city of Palu and about 16 miles northwest of Kasiguncu at a depth of about 5 miles.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami warning for Hawaii and there have been no reports of any damages or injuries.
