Strong quake off Guatemala poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii
A strong earthquake this morning off the coast of Guatemala does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The preliminary magnitude 6.8 struck at 2:31 a.m. Hawaii time 14.7 miles southwest of Puerto San Jose, Guatemala at a depth of 29.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
“Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement.
No serious injuries were immediately reported.
