Police: Man dies after wife runs him over in wild truck ride

BATON ROUGE, La. >> Police said a woman who was beaten bloody by her husband sought help at a gas station, jumping into a truck and leading other truckers and her husband in a chase to a police station. That’s where the man jumped on the truck’s cab. He eventually fell and was crushed under its wheels.

It’s unlikely that the woman will face criminal charges, Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said.

“She was a victim,” McKneely said. “She was panicking because of what had happened… She was obviously in fear for her life.”

Aaron Davis, 27, died on Saturday, a day after his 29-year-old wife rolled over him with the truck, The Advocate reported.

The wild chain of events began Thursday, when Davis got into a fight at the gas station, and then went home and beat his wife, cutting her forehead and bruising the back of her head, McKneely said.

“He was upset at the fact that she didn’t help him during the altercation,” he said.

The couple returned to the business Friday seeking surveillance video of the fight. While Davis was trying to persuade employees to show him the video, his wife approached a box truck driver for help.

“She panics, jumps in the box truck and takes off,” McKneely said.

The woman sped toward police headquarters, with both her husband and a group of box truck drivers in pursuit. She circled the police department’s parking lot trying to find an officer who could help, at one point driving under an overhang at the front of the building and cracking the plaster, McKneely said.

Davis then jumped out of his vehicle and climbed onto the truck’s cab, frightening the woman and causing her to crash through a gate. She kept driving on city streets, with her husband clinging to the cab, until she spotted an officer making a traffic stop. He then fell off the truck and was run over, McKneely said.
