Man charged with threatening 3 people at Ala Moana Park

A 48-year-old man has been charged for allegedly threatening three people with a dangerous instrument at Ala Moana Park.

Richard A. Mariano was charged Thursday with first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail is set at $50,000.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said a male, later identified as Mariano, approached a 59-year-old man at the park and threatened to harm him with an unspecified dangerous instrument. Mariano then threatened a couple — a 57-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman — while armed with the dangerous instrument.

Mariano and the victims are not known to one another.

Police arrested Mariano at the park shortly afterward.

He has a criminal record that includes criminal property damage, terroristic threatening, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, theft, criminal trespassing, assault and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
