Police officer assaulted during burglary call

A 57-year old man is in custody after allegedly using a dangerous instrument and assaulting a police officer, who was responding to a burglary call.

Police were called to a Waianae residence on Farrington Highway near Maaloa Street abut 8:30 p.m. on Friday to respond to a claim that the suspect had violated a protective order and unlawfully entered the home. The suspect fled before police arrived.

Police were called again when the man returned later that night. This time, police said that the suspect allegedly used a “blunt object” and assaulted the officer. Police said today that the officer was later taken to the hospital and treated for a chipped bone.

The suspect resisted arrest, but later complied and was taken into custody at 2:07 a.m. today. Police said charges are still pending.
