Police arrest man after he allegedly steals county bus in Hilo
Hawaii County police have arrested a 21-year-old Hilo man after he allegedly stole a county bus over the weekend.
Shortly after 1:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a hit-and-run on Railroad Avenue in Hilo involving the bus that was reportedly stolen from the county’s Hilo baseyard that morning.
No injuries were reported.
Police spotted the bus on Route 130 that same day and stopped it near the intersection of Kaohuwalu Street in Pahoa. Officers arrested the 21-year-old man who remains in custody.
Police said the bus sustained moderate damage. A damage estimate was not available at this time.
