Power was expected to be fully restored to Waiau and Pearl City by 6:30 p.m. today after this garbage truck snagged an overhead telephone line that damaged power lines.

Electrical power is expected to be fully restored to areas of Waiau and Pearl City by 6:30 p.m. today, after a garbage truck snagged an overhead telephone line that damaged power lines this morning, according to Hawaiian Electric Co.

The power outage occurred shortly after 9 a.m. and electricity service to most of the 1,680 affected customers was restored about 10:30 a.m., the company said.

The crash happened near Hoohulu Place.
