Suspected Waikiki shoplifter facing robbery, assault charges

Police arrested a 32-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a store employee and a police officer when he shoplifted merchandise from a retail store in Waikiki.

Just before 5:40 p.m. Sunday, police said the suspect entered a business on Kalakaua Avenue and stole merchandise. When an employee attempted to recover the items from the culprit, he used force in an attempt to flee.

Police immediately responded. While placing him under arrest, police said the suspect assaulted one of the officers

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery and assault on a law enforcement officer.
