Asing wins WSL qualifying event

Hawaii’s Keanu Asing won the World Surf League Vans Pro Qualifying Series 3,000 event Sunday at Virginia Beach, Va.

Asing scored a two-wave total of 16.33 in the final to beat Patrick Gudauskas (14.76), Evan Geiselman (12.33) and Kanoa Igarashi (11.13).

Asing has won three WSL qualifying series events this year.

Ho, Ichimura fail to reach match play

Honolulu’s Carl Ho and Mililani’s Scott Ichimura failed to advance to match play at the USGA Senior Amateur in Minneapolis.

Ho completed the second round of stroke play Sunday at 12-over-par 156 at the Minikahda Club. Ichimura finished at 164.

The top 64 start match play today.
