Docent training begins at Waikiki Aquarium

DENNIS ODA / 2013

Hyejin Lee and her son, Maru, look through a small circular window at the Waikiki Aquarium as a zebra shark cruises by.

Share your love of the ocean and its inhabitants by volunteering as a docent at the Waikiki Aquarium.

Docents work with the aquarium’s education staff to stage presentations and guide tours for young students. They work three-hour shifts one morning per week, typically Tuesday, Thursday or Friday throughout the school year.

The next free docent training begins Tuesday and runs through Sept. 26, with sessions held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Info: Call 440-9020, e-mail volunteer@waquarium.org or visit waikikiaquarium.org/support/volunteer.
