Woman escapes Makaha fire by jumping from 3rd-floor lanai

A 51-year-old woman was hurt after jumping from her third-floor apartment lanai to escape a fire at the Makaha Surfside Apartments this morning.

Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated the woman for her injuries and took her to a hospital in serious condition. One additional person was also transported by EMS.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to the two-alarm fire with nine units at 85-175 Farrington Highway at 8:47 a.m. and found smoke coming from a third-floor unit of the four-story apartment building. The fire was under control by 8:54 a.m.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
