UH soccer team beats Grand Canyon for third straight road win
Sonest Furtado scored twice to give the Hawaii soccer team its third straight road victory, 2-1 at Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz., today.
Furtado got UH (5-4) on the board in the 61st minute on a cross assist from Sarah Lau. Once GCU’s Amanda Lopez equaled on a cross in the 72nd minute, Furtado struck from a similar spot about 12 yards out shaded to the left on an assist upfield from Kellsie Gleason in the 85th minute.
They were the team-best third and fourth goals of the season for the Waianae High product Furtado, a senior who matched her output as a freshman and now has 11 career scores. It was her second career multi-goal game.
The Wahine swept their two-game trip to Arizona State (1-0 in overtime) and GCU after winning the finale of their previous three-game road trip, 2-0 at Idaho State. The GCU Lopes fell to 3-6-1.
UH heads back out for Big West play at UC Davis on Sept. 28.
