State changes schedule for rat-lungworm informational meetings

The state Department of Agriculture has adjusted the schedule for its earlier-announced series of informational meetings on rat lungworm disease on Oahu.

Officials from the department, along with the state Department of Health and the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Health Resources, will present information on how to reduce the risk of rat lungworm disease and other food-borne illnesses.

The new schedule and venues are as follows:

>> 6-8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Hawaii Agricultural Research Center, 94-340 Kunia Road

>> 6-8 p.m. Sept. 28 at Kahuku High School cafeteria, 56-490 Kamehameha Highway

So far in 2017, there have been 16 confirmed cases of rat lungworm disease statewide — nine on Hawaii island, six on Maui and one on Oahu, state officials said.
