CSUN defeats Wahine in soccer

Brian McInnis

Despite taking a second-half lead, the Hawaii soccer team was unable to close the deal in a 2-1 loss to Cal State Northridge this afternoon at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

UH (6-8, 1-4 Big West) got a 54th-minute goal from Lillie French, the sophomore’s first career, on a give from Sonest Furtado. But CSUN (7-4-5, 3-1-1) struck back in the 60th and 69th minutes with goals from Marissa Favela and Cynthia Sanchez.

The Wahine aren’t yet mathematically eliminated from another Big West tournament, but need to win their last three matches and get some help from around the league to qualify in the top four.

UH hosts Cal Poly (6-9-1, 1-4) for its senior day next Sunday, then plays its final two games on the road.
