Akaka Falls State Park closes for maintenance
Akaka Falls State Park will be closed starting today until Friday for work on the shorter, left side of the trail to the lookout, according to state officials.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is making repairs to the 0.4-mile loop trail at the park due to accidental damage caused by the removal of invasive albizia trees in February. Initial repair work began earlier this month on the longer trail section to the right of the loop trail, with the removal of damaged concrete walkways and replacement of railings. The work is expected to be completed in December.
Visitors can still view Akaka Falls by taking the path to the left from the first junction. Check dlnr.hawaii.gov for updates and additional closures.
