Mario DiLello, who taught social studies at Sacred Hearts Academy, was arrested at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday by Honolulu police at his Moiliili condominium on Church Lane. DiLello was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree sexual assault, a Class C felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, said Chuck Parker, spokesman for Honolulu Prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro.

A former male teacher who was fired from all-girls Sacred Hearts Academy in Kaimuki has been charged with one count of third-degree sexual assault and was scheduled to make his initial appearance in District Court this morning.

Mario DiLello, 55, who taught social studies at the Catholic school, was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree sexual assault, a Class C felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, said Chuck Parker, spokesman for Honolulu Prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro.

DiLello was arrested by Honolulu police on Tuesday at his Moiliili condominium on Church Lane and did not make his $50,000 bail, Parker said. Police arrested him on suspicion of two counts of fourth-degree sex assault and three counts of third-degree sex assault, police said.

In a complaint filed in District Court, DiLello is alleged to have knowingly engaged “in sexual contact with a person who was at least 14 years old but less than 16 years old by placing his hand on her buttocks.”

DiLello was not “less than five years older than the person and was not legally married to the person, thereby committing the offense of sexual assault in the third degree,” Parker said.
