No one hurt as dryer sparks blaze in Ewa Beach

Michael Tsai

Fire investigators have determined that a two-alarm building fire in Ewa Beach originated from a clothes dryer.

The fire at a multiple-family townhouse on Makaalo Street was first reported 4:51 p.m.

The Honolulu Fire Department dispatched nine units staffed with 31 personnel.

The fire, located on the first floor of a corner unit, was brought under control by 5:02 p.m. and extinguished by 5:12 p.m.

The fire was contained to a laundry room in the unit. The occupant of the unit was not home and all other residents of the townhouse were able to evacuate without injury.

A woman was evaluated at the scene and transported for treatment of an unrelated medical condition. No damage estimates are yet available.
