Pedestrian dies after he is struck by vehicle in Waipahu

A 43-year-old man has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Waipahu over the weekend.

Positive identification is pending.

At about 6:50 p.m. Sunday, police said a vehicle operated by a 32-year-old man was traveling south on Mokuola Street when the vehicle struck the pedestrian near the intersection of Mokuola and Waipahu streets.

Emergency Medical Services transported him to an area hospital in critical condition and upgraded to serious condition.

While at the hospital, police said the pedestrian’s condition worsened and he was later pronounced dead.

It’s unknown whether speed was involved or whether he was in a marked crosswalk.

Police said alcohol was not a factor.

This is the 40th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 47 at the same time last year.

Police are continuing their investigation.
