Hawaii basketball junior guard Sheriff Drammeh was named the Big West player of the week a day after leading his team to a narrow win over Utah Valley.

Drammeh scored a career-high 20 points and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 37.5 seconds left in the Rainbow Warriors’ 70-69 victory at the Stan Sheriff Center, their third straight.

The Swede shot 6-for-13 from the field — including a personal-best 4-for-8 on 3s — for his first career weekly award, and first for a UH men’s hoops player this season.

He contributed a steal on the final play of the game, disrupting a Wolverines inbounds pass that could have resulted in a game-winning shot by the visitors from the WAC.

UH (7-2) faces No. 6 Miami (9-0) to open the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Friday.
