Man, 66, charged in fatal stabbing on oil tanker near Aloha Tower

Police investigated the scene of a fatal stabbing, Friday, on an oil tanker at Pier 10 near Aloha Tower. A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man aboard an oil tanker near Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Jong Geun Byun was charged Saturday with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $500,000.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release positive identification of the victim.

The stabbing occurred at about 1:05 a.m. Friday aboard a vessel named Hai Soon 39 that was docked at Pier 10. Police and Emergency Medical Services said the victim, described to be in his late 50s, sustained a single puncture wound to the chest.

Paramedics transported him to a trauma hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead.
