Brown-water advisory posted for Honolua Bay on Maui

The state health department has issued a brown water advisory for Honolua Bay on Maui.

Rains have resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters, according to the department’s clean water branch, and the public is advised to stay out due to possible pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff. However, as a general rule, it’s best to stay out if the water is brown.

A brown water advisory also remains in effect at Waimea Bay on Oahu’s North Shore. It was first posted on Monday.
