Former UH QB Moniz signs with Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Former University of Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz has signed a two-year contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
“I’m excited,” Moniz said. “I’ve been training hard and getting ready for this.”
Bryant, 29, is a Leilehua High graduate and three-year starter for the Rainbow Warriors.
Former UH coach June Jones is Hamilton’s head coach.
Hamilton re-signed Jeremiah Masoli and traded for Vernon Adams, who was Marcus Mariota’s successor at Oregon. Jones told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he is hopeful of signing quarterback Johnny Manziel. The Tiger-Cats control the CFL rights to the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner. If Manziel joins, Jones said, the plan is to keep all four quarterbacks on the 2018 roster.
Moniz first met Jones at a football camp several years ago, but they were not at UH at the same time. “We all know what he’s done for UH in his time there,” Moniz said Jones. “I’m excited, for sure, to be under him and experience what it’s like first hand.”
