The Chef Mavro team celebrates its 10th five-diamond award.

Once again, Chef Mavro and La Mer in the Halekulani have received Five Diamond Awards from the American Automobile Association.

It is the 10th year that Chef Mavro has won the top recognition; 28 years for La Mer. The awards were announced Wednesday.

AAA inspectors visit 31,000 restaurants anonymously to evaluate them for potential diamond listings, the association says, and only 0.2 percent earn five diamonds.

Chef Mavro and La Mer share the award with the likes of Le Bernardin and Per Se in New York and the French Laundry in California.

Another 2.5 percent of restaurants reviewed receive four-diamond awards. In Hawaii the 11 four-diamond winners have all been named before, except the Banyan Tree in Kapalua, Maui, which has made the list for the first time.

Four-diamond winners: Bali Steak & Seafood, Hoku’s and Orchids in Honolulu; Spago, the Restaurant at Hotel Wailea, Mill House and Banyan Tree, all on Maui; Red Salt on Kauai; Brown’s Beach House and Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar on Hawaii island; and One Forty on Lanai.
