Hawaii Pacific women win PacWest tournament

RIVERSIDE, Calif. >> The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team defeated Point Loma 77-71 today to win the PacWest Conference tournament and clinch a berth to the NCAA Division II tournament.

Jessi Reeves scored 23 points and Spencer Gray added 18 for the Sharks (26-3). Gabriella Fotu added 12 points and hit two late 3-pointers to overtake the Sea Lions (19-11), who rallied from 14 down and led 68-64 with 3:03 left in the game.

Fotu’s second 3-pointer gave HPU the lead for good at 70-68 with 2:09 left and the Sharks made seven free throws to close out the game.

Samantha Lambrigsten finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for HPU, which led 33-26 at halftime. HPU last won the league tournament in 2015.

The 64-team national tournament field will be announced on Sunday.
