Kakaako house fire ruled as arson

A house fire in Kakaako has been ruled as arson, according to fire investigators.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a call about a building fire in Kakaako at five minutes to noon on Wednesday.

Upon arrival four minutes later, there were no visible signs of smoke or fire coming from the two-story, multifamily building at 961 Kawaiahao St. Firefighters investigated further, and extinguished a fire confined to a second-floor unit, where it originated.

The fire was intentionally set, according to HFD investigators, who turned the case over to the Honolulu Police Department. Damages to the structure are estimated at about $300. No injuries were reported.
