Visiting hiker airlifted from Lanipo Trail

Honolulu firefighters rescued an injured, male hiker on the Lanipo Trail on Saturday evening.

The man, 22, had injured his lower left leg while hiking with five other males approximately one mile into the hike. Honolulu firefighters arrived at 5:32 p.m., established command and used its Air1 helicopter with two rescue specialists to pick up the man. All six hikers were visitors.

The patient was airlifted to Palolo Valley District Park and transferred to the care of paramedics at Emergency Medical Services personnel at 6:25 p.m.
