Replace your Social Security card online

Need to replace your lost or misplaced Social Security card? The online Social Security Administration application makes getting a replacement card easy. There’s no need to sit in traffic or visit a local office.

As long as you’re only requesting a replacement card, and no other changes, you can use the free online service from the comfort of your home or office.

First, create a Social Security account at socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

Your identity and personal information are protected through identity verification and security features built-in to the application process. Once you have an account, follow the online prompts to replace your Social Security card.

In many cases, even if you lost your card, you may not need a replacement immediately.

Most of the time, simply knowing your Social Security number is enough.

To find out more information, visit socialsecurity.gov/ssnumber.

Hawaii residents do not meet the requirements needed to be able to apply online for a replacement Social Security card.
