Fugitive arrested on Oahu for Minnesota vehicular homicide
A 30-year-old Minneapolis fugitive who pleaded guilty to felony criminal vehicular homicide was arrested today in Honolulu.
According to U.S. Marshals and the Honolulu Police Department, Abel Morara Kebasso was taken into custody at a home on Hau Street, and transported to HPD pending a court appearance and extradition hearing to Minnesota.
Kebasso was wanted by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota on an arrest warrant in connection with an April 08, 2017, vehicle crash in which he was the driver and his passenger was killed. Authorities say at the time of the crash Kebasso was under the influence of alcohol.
He pleaded guilty in October, was convicted of felony criminal vehicular homicide, and ordered to turn himself in to begin serving his sentence on Nov. 1. After he failed to show up, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Kebasso was transported and booked into HPD’s central receiving pending a court appearance and extradition hearing back to Minnesota.
