Large fight near Papakolea Community Park leaves 5 hurt

Two men were arrested in an attempted murder investigation Saturday night after a brawl involving dozens of people in Tantalus, police said.

Two parties were fighting when two men with dangerous instruments assaulted five victims in the fray at about 8:30 p.m., police said.

The victims were possibly assaulted with knives and bats, an Emergency Medical Services report said.

Three ambulance units responded to the intersection near Papakolea Community Park on Tantalus Drive, and paramedics treated and transported five patients to a hospital in serious condition, the report said.

The patients were two men, ages 43 and 18; two 17-year-old boys; and a 17-year-old girl.

The 43-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy had possible stab wounds, and the other three victims had possible injuries from a bat, the report said.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man for investigation of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault and a 23-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree assault. They were arrested at the intersection of Mott Smith Drive and Lewalani Drive.
