Police identify man who died in 3-vehicle crash on Big Isle
Hawaii island police identified the 25-year-old man who died following a three-vehicle collision Saturday as John Krasovskiy of Ninole.
Police responded to a 3:40 p.m. call Saturday, and determined that a 2008 Nissan sedan traveling south near the 17-mile marker of Highway 190 in Kailua-Kona hydroplaned into the oncoming lane, sideswiped a 2016 Toyota pick-up truck, then collided head-on into a 2011 Peterbilt tanker-truck.
Krasovskiy, the driver of the Nissan sedan, was transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he died. He was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. Two other occupants of the Nissan were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Three occupants in the Tacoma pickup truck and the driver of the Peterbilt tanker-truck were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police said they believe weather conditions and speed were a factor in this crash. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 326-4646, extension 229.
This is the 25th traffic fatality in Hawaii island this year, police said, compared with 26 at the same time last year.
