Crews will be installing an additional 128 precast concrete panels on the eastbound and westbound H-1 freeway near the Sears Distribution Center in Pearl City and on the eastbound H-1 freeway before the Aiea Heights Drive overpass, requiring overnight lane closures starting Wednesday evening.

A portion of the H-1 freeway in Pearl City and Aiea will be closed starting Thursday instead of Wednesday evening, as originally announced, for additional concrete panel work, according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation.

On Thursday, crews will be striping, and then in the following days, installing an additional 128 precast concrete panels on the eastbound H-1 freeway near the Sears Distribution Center in Pearl City and on the eastbound H-1 freeway before the Aiea Heights Drive overpass.

The closures have been updated to reflect only eastbound closures from Thursday to Sunday.

State officials said the closures are necessary in order to facilitate survey layout, saw cutting of existing pavement, and panel setting. These panels were not part of Phase 1 of the H-1 Shoulder and Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation (PCCP) project that rehabilitated rough asphalt segments of the freeway. For that phase, completed in mid-August, crews installed 1,279 precast concrete panels.

The installation of the additional panels is expected to be done in late November.
