Police seek suspect in violent Chinatown robbery of senior citizen

Police released this video today of a violent purse snatching in Chinatown that left an 82-year-old woman hospitalized for several days.

Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted for a violent purse snatching involving a senior citizen in Chinatown.

Police released grainy video today of the man approaching an 82-year-old woman from behind on River Street near Chinatown Cultural Plaza at about 3:45 a.m. Oct. 17.

The man can be seen grabbing the woman’s bag and causing her to fall down.

Police said the man violently swung the victim, who fell onto her head and lost consciousness.

The woman was hospitalized for several days for injuries from the incident, and while she has been released, she is still recovering, police said.

The suspect fled Ewa-bound on North Kukui Street with the woman’s purse.
