Firefighters extinguish fire on trailer carrying liquid nitrogen in Hilo

A wheel brake caught fire on a trailer carrying 38,000 pounds of liquid nitrogen earlier today in Hilo.

Fifteen Hawaii County firefighters responded to the scene with the first unit arriving at 2:24 a.m., according to a news release. Firefighters extinguished the fire at 2:27 a.m. and cooled down the tank.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No gas leaks were reported. No injuries were reported.
