Waveriders patrol high surf at Waimea Bay. Surf is expected to reach 8 to 12 feet along the west shores of Oahu and Molokai, then drop below advisory levels later this afternoon.

A high-surf advisory for parts of Hawaii today has expired.

The advisory was in effect this morning for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau as well as the north-facing shores of Maui.

Surf was expected to reach between 12 and 16 feet along the north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau, and north shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m. today. Surf was expected to reach 8 to 12 feet along the west shores of Oahu and Molokai, then drop below advisory levels later this afternoon.

Moderate, strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents was expected to make swimming dangerous and difficult. The advisory warned beachgoers to exercise caution and heed all advice from Ocean Safety officials.
