The Downtown Grand has announced it’s expanding by 250,000 square feet, with the key addition being a new 495-room hotel tower. The seven-floor tower will be the resort’s third and will add a mix of standard rooms and suites to bring the total room count to 1,194.

The Downtown Grand was originally the Lady Luck when it opened in 1964. The resort closed in 2007 and reopened as the Downtown Grand after a renovation.

The new tower will join several other Las Vegas projects scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Giant dragon: To commemorate the Chinese New Year, a huge dragon is on display in the Forum Shops at Caesars. The steel dragon, near the main entrance off the casino, is 22 feet long, 12 feet tall, and 6 feet wide, festooned with 30,000 red and amber LEDs. It will be on display through the end of February.

Britney cancels: Britney Spears has canceled her 32-show residency, “Britney: Domination,” scheduled to begin at the Park Theater on Feb. 13 and run through August. Spears cited her father’s recent health struggles as the reason for the cancellation.

WSOP: The World Series of Poker will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, running from May 28 through July 16 at the Rio. A number of special events will commemorate the anniversary, including the “Big 50,” a $500-buy-in event with a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million and a $1 million first prize. The Main Event will feature three starting flights on July 3, 4 and 5.

Question: Is Wynn Resorts suing Resorts World Las Vegas, and on what grounds?

Answer: Wynn is suing Resorts for looking too much like the Wynn and Encore. The five-count lawsuit cites trademark infringement, unfair competition, false designation of origin and public confusion in its demand that Resorts World essentially redesign its $4 billion building. That result seems unlikely, but it’s another bump in the road for the long-delayed resort on the north end of the Strip.
