Police investigate the scene of a motorcycle accident in Mililani.

Police say speed appears to be a factor in a motorcycle crash that killed a 22-year-old rider in Mililani.

Police said the man, who was not wearing a helmet, was speeding as he headed west on Wikao Street.

He hit a curb, was thrown from the Kawasaki motorcycle and struck a tree at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The motorcyclist, who is from Mililani, was taken in critical condition to Wahiawa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This was the 17th Oahu traffic fatality compared to 15 at the same time last year.
