The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. the following morning for the next four weekends of April.

Several roadwork projects slated for Farrington Highway will result in closures and detours, starting Saturday night.

State transportation officials said Farrington Highway will be closed in both directions between Upena Street and Kili Drive at Makaha Bridge 3 over the next four weekends for bridge deck replacement work.

The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. the following morning for the next four weekends of April:

>> April 6-7: 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday

>> April 13-14: 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday

>> April 20-21: 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday

>> April 27-28: 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday

Traffic will be detoured around the closure in both directions via Makaha Valley Road, Ala Holo Loop, Huipu Drive and Kili Drive.

The work is necessary to ensure that Makaha Bridge 3 is structurally sound until it and Makaha Bridge 3-A (just north of Kili Drive) are replaced, officials said.

In addition, roadwork for the resurfacing of Farrington Highway from Hakimo Road to Kili Drive, which includes the replacement of striping and pavement markers and safety improvements between Waianae High and Intermediate schools, begins Monday as the last of a three-part project.

Community feedback on the safety improvement is welcome via email to DOTPAO@hawaii.gov by April 12.

The schedule for work on Farrington Highway is as follows:

>> 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday next week: Crews will begin installing construction best management practices and lowering manholes in the project area starting from Kili Drive and working toward Hakimo Road.

>> 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday next week: Work involves a roaming single lane closure on Farrington Highway between Makua Beach to Satellite Tracking Station Road. There will be alternating traffic control (contra-flow) during work hours. This project is expected to be substantially complete by May.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time during planned roadwork and to check smartphone traffic apps for conditions before heading out. All roadwork is weather permitting.
