Search continues for missing hiker on Maui

Emergency personnel and volunteers on Maui continued their search today for a missing 35-year-old woman who was hiking along the Kahakapao Loop Trail in the Makawao Forest Reserve.

About 60 personnel from the Maui Police Department, Maui Fire Department, State DLNR Forestry, American Medical Response as well as volunteers from Maui Search & Rescue continued a coordinated search for 35-year-old Amanda Eller of Haiku. About 50 public volunteers assisted throughout the day on the east and west trails of Kahakapao Loop.

Eller was reported missing on Thursday. She had not been seen or heard from since Wednesday at about 7:30 a.m. Her vehicle was found in the area of the trail on Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to immediately call the Maui Police Department at 808-244-6400 or 911 in an emergency.
