Traffic Advisory: Utility work to close Paiwa Street onramp to H-1 West

The Paiwa Street onramp to H-1 freeway west will be closed tonight and Thursday night as Hawaiian Electric contractors work on steel transmission structures near the rear of Lowe’s at Waikele Center.

The maintenance work will require the closure of the Paiwa Street onramp fronting the Waikele Country Club Golf Course between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. tonight and again on Thursday night.

Motorists headed makai on Paiwa Street during the scheduled work hours must find an alternative route; traffic headed mauka on Paiwa Street will still have access to the onramp.

The work will also require a shoulder lane closure at the Waipahu-Waikele exit from H-1 west. The exit, however, will remain open while crews work from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Traffic cones will be placed around the work sites and special duty police officers will help direct traffic onsite. Motorists are advised to exercise caution approaching and passing through the work areas.
