Police fatally shot a man outside a Kalihi car dealership late this morning, officials said.

According to Emergency Medical Services, paramedics responded at 11:10 a.m. to New City Nissan at 2295 N. King St., and treated a man possibly in his 30s with an “apparent gunshot wound.”

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, EMS said. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the man later died.

At about 11:30 a.m., city officials said in an alert that there was “no further threat in the area.”

Police closed King and Middle streets while they investigated, reopening the roads before 5 p.m.

Kalihi Union Church and a preschool on the property were on lockdown into the afternoon while police investigated.

A Facebook Live video posted by a dealership employee showed two shattered windows with bullet holes.

Kin Wong, a station attendant at a city fuel facility located across from the car dealership, said he was on his lunch break when he heard several gunshots. “I heard about four or five shots. I thought somebody was playing fireworks illegally.”

He also saw a helicopter hovering over the dealership.

Tony, who declined to give his last name, said he was in his parked car on Umi Street near a construction and renewable energy company he works at when he heard shots fired at about 11 a.m. “I ducked in my car when I heard shots.”
