Water main break in Waianae closes satellite city hall and driver licensing center

City officials say the driver licensing center and satellite city hall in Waianae are closed today due to a water main break in the area.

Both offices are housed at the Waianae Neighborhood Community Center.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply reported this morning that it was responding to a 16-inch main break at 85-670 Farrington Highway between Ala Hema and Kauiokalani streets, affecting about 440 customers. Only one west-bound lane is open, with a contra-flow lane in place.

Two water wagons have been set up at Waianae Boat Harbor and Kaiuokalani Place.

Officials said the closure of the city offices is due to the lack of water and restrooms at the center, and staff will be reassigned to other service locations for the day.

Those with appointments will be contacted and offered the opportunity to reschedule, city officials said.

The main break also affects water service at Waianae District Park.

The city expects repairs will be completed in time today to resume normal operations on Tuesday.
