2 men in early 20s dead after Wahiawa crash

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said two men died early this morning when the vehicle they were in crashed along Paalaa Uka Road in Wahiawa.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the men were traveling eastbound on Paalaa Uka at a high rate of speed when the driver, 21, lost control and collided with a utility pole and a tree.

Both the driver and his male passenger, in his early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene by repsonding paramedics, EMS said.

The incident was reported to EMS at 12:52 a.m. today.

HPD said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash; it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were contributing factors as well.

These are the 45th and 46th fatalities of 2020, as compared to 45 at this time in 2019.
