Body found in Big Island trailer after fire extinguished

Hawaii island police are investigating the cause of death and the identity of a person whose body was found severely burned Tuesday morning after a residential building fire in Kalopa.

Police and fire officials responded to the Kalaniai Road fire in Kalopa Mauka just after 11:30 a.m. The single-story, trailer- structure was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Once they extinguished the flames, they found the body, fire department officials said.

Police are investigating the fire and are trying to determine the victim’s cause of death of and identity. An autopsy as been ordered.
