The Honolulu Fire Department airlifted an injured hiker, a 24-year-old man in the military, who slipped and fell at the Koko Crater Tramway trail.

HFD reported the call at 6:33 p.m. about the injured hiker, who was about 30 steps from the top of the trail.

The Air 1 helicopter arrived on scene but was diverted to rescue a distressed swimmer at Spitting Caves. Air 3 was then dispatched to assist with the injured hiker.

HFD made contact with the hiker, who slipped and fell, possibly injuring his tailbone. The hiker said he had a difficult time moving his legs, and was later airlifted by Air 3 to Koko Head District Park.

The hiker was transferred to the care of the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at around 7:30 p.m.
