Honolulu firefighters discovered a “body burnt beyond recognition” after extinguishing a minibus fire in Waianae early this morning.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to an 11:52 p.m. 911 call reporting a fire at 86-566 Hakalina Road. Firefighters arrived at midnight to find a minibus engulfed in smoke and flames.

About 33 firefighters from 12 units quickly had the fire under control by 12:03 a.m. and extinguished soon afterward, HFD said in a news release.

Once extinguished, they discovered a body inside. No further information about the victim was immediately released.

HFD said it is investigating to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
