Hawaii Pacific Health’s mobile vaccine clinics on Oahu and Kauai will be offering booster shots, starting Friday.

Hawaii Pacific Health said it is offering the booster shots following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendation Friday endorsing the use of a third dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine for immunocompromised individuals.

HPH said the CDC’s endorsement follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s decision Thursday to amend the emergency use authorizations for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. There is, however, no recommendation yet for recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

According to HPH, those who qualify for the booster shot include those with moderate to severely compromised immune systems, such as organ transplant recipients, those undergoing treatment for cancer, or those who are diagnosed with conditions that have caused an equivalent level of weakened immune system.

Individuals will not be required to provide proof of a medical condition to get the booster, but will be asked to attest to their condition.

“It is preferred that individuals receive the same brand as their previous two doses, but not required,” said HPH in a news release. “Anyone eligible must have received their second dose at least 28 days prior to receiving a third dose.”

Those who are eligible, and who would like to get a booster shot immediately can do so at the following HPH COVID-19 vaccine clinic locations today and this weekend:

Oahu

>> 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Kapolei High School

>> 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kalani High School

>> 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Waipahu High School

Kauai

>> 12 to 3 p.m. today at Hanapepe Neighborhood Center

>> 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Wilcox Medical Center

>> 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hanalei Neighborhood Center

On Kauai, vaccinations are walk-in only for the clinic dates listed above. On Oahu, appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also accepted. To schedule an appointment, visit HawaiiPacificHealth.org/COVIDVaxSquad.

HPH will announce additional vaccine locations and appointments for booster shots beyond this weekend as details are finalized.
